Global Warming has become an extreme issue. Global warming is the effect of to much green house gases being released into the atmosphere. When in the atmosphere, the green house gases let the suns rays in but not out. Some of these green house gases are CO2, methane, and nitrous oxide. On average, 7.5 billion metric tons of green house gas is released into the atmosphere each year! That’s like 750,000,000 elephants!!!!!

Global warming is hitting hard in the north and south. Both the north and the south ice caps are malting. The effects are tremendous. Scientists predict that the world water level will rise more then 2 feet. And up in the north f the year ice is gone now due to increased temperature. In Canada and parts of the U.S. people have reported groups of polar bears dinging through garbage cans looking for food.

Just off the shore of Queensland Australia is the biggest coral reef in the world. THE GREAT BARRIER REEF!

The great barrier is actually made up of 2,900 individual reefs stretching an astonishing 133,000 sq miles! Recently in the past 20-30 years, the Great Barrier Reef has begun to dye and global warming is the cause. Since CO2 is now in the air, it is also in the oceans. The increased amount of CO2 in the water is turning the water more acidic therefore bleaching and killing the corals.

The 2 main contributors to global warming are, 1. Humans. And 2. Cows! Humans contribute to about 85% of global warming. One of the main ways is by burning gas. Every single car, truck and lawn mower produces CO2 emissions. There are about 600 million cars and trucks in the world and about 100 million lawn mowers in the world. All together that’s over 700 million CO2 emitting vehicles. A good way to reduce emissions is to by a hybrid. A hybrid is a car that uses gas and another energy source like electricity stored in a big battery. There fore you do not use as much gas, which means less CO2 emissions. Plus, since you use less gas, it saves you more money at the pump!!!!!!! Another way that we are contributes to global warming is from deforestation. You may be wondering how deforestation would contribute to global warming, here’s how. When you breath in air, your body takes only the oxygen from the air and gives the rest back as CO2. Then plants take in the air and use the CO2, and give the rest back as oxygen. When we cut down a lot of trees, more CO2 goes in to the atmosphere because there are fewer trees and plants to take it in. Cows are nowhere close to humans but come in second place contributing to 8% of global warming. Cows burps contain high amounts of methane. Methane is another green house gas that has 21 times the power of CO2 meaning it can hold 21 times more the amount of the suns rays, than CO2. The one good part about it though is that it lasts for only 10-12 years. CO2 on the other hand can live for up to 500 years!
